No. 3 Tar Heels Fall At No. 1 Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The North Carolina field hockey team fell 2-0 to top-ranked Wake Forest on Saturday afternoon at Kentner Stadium. The No. 3 Tar Heels are now 8-2 on the season and 0-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while the Demon Deacons, defending NCAA Champions, improved to 9-0 overall, 3-0 in ACC play.
Wake Forest scored a goal late in each half of the game. The first was by Christine Suggs, assisted by Kristi Harshman, in the 33rd minute of play. With five minutes remaining in the game, Maeka Boreel grabbed the rebound of her own saved shot and fired in a goal to give Wake a 2-0 lead.
Tar Heel goalkeeper Katy Tran made a season-high 10 saves as Wake outshot UNC 17-5, including an 8-1 disparity in the first half. UNC was shut out for the first time since the 2003 season.
Carolina returns to action next Saturday with another ACC game, this one at home against Boston College. Game time is 1 p.m. at Francis E. Henry Stadium.
