
Tar Heels Take 2-1 Victory At Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Senior Kelsey Keeran and sophomore Laree Beans scored goals for the North Carolina field hockey team Sunday afternoon as the Tar Heels beat host Penn State 2-1. With the win, UNC improved to 6-0 on the season while Penn State fell to 1-4.
Keeran got UNC on the board first almost 13 minutes into the game, scoring her eighth goal of the season on an assist from senior Kerry Falgowski. Just over three minutes later, Penn State freshman Kiersten Wood tied the game, scoring her first career goal off a rebound. After a 1-1 halftime tie, Beans scored the game-winner 13 minutes into the second half on an assist from senior Katy Potter.
Carolina had 19 shots in the game, 14 in the first half, to five by Penn State. The Tar Heels also tallied many more penalty corners, drawing 15 to Penn State's three.
Next up for UNC is the team's first home contest of the year. The Tar Heels host Old Dominion on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game at Francis E. Henry Stadium. The matchup with the Lady Monarchs opens a three-game homestand for Carolina, which hosts Virginia next Sunday for the Atlantic Coast Conference opener and takes on Appalachian State on Sept. 22.
