NEWARK, Del. - Behind a hat trick from senior Kelsey Keeran, the North Carolina field hockey team defeated host Delaware 5-1 Friday afternoon at Fred P. Rullo Stadium. The Tar Heels (5-0) also got goals from sophomore Rachel Dawson and freshman Anne Marie Janus in the win.
Keeran's first goal, assisted by senior Laura Douglas, came just five minutes into the game. She added another 14 minutes in, assisted by sophomore Laree Beans. Beans also assisted on Janus's goal, which came at 21:17. Dawson's goal, on a penalty corner, was assisted by Douglas and sophomore Brooke Miller and put UNC up 4-0 at halftime.
The Blue Hens got their only score of the game with 17 minutes remaining, on an unassisted goal by Jessi Balmer. UNC had shut out its previous three opponents and has now allowed just three goals in this season's five games.
