General – Returning letterman...transferred from University of Kansas after his freshman year...was born December 8, 1981 in Kansas City, Mo....is the son of Rob and Marcia Metzler...has three brothers and one sister… his grandfather, Robert Metzler, played football for Notre Dame...nicknamed “Spiderman.”

As a Junior -- Won his flight championship in singles at the Top of the Hill Kickoff Collegiate Classic and the Groot Memorial Invitational...went 3-1 in prequalifying at the All-American Championships.

As a Sophomore -- An All-ACC selection...2002 ACC champion at #6 singles with a 6-2 mark...was 25-10 overall in singles...had an outstanding 8-1 record ijn tiebreakers...had three match clinching wins including in both matches against Wake Forest...had wins over #66 Romain Judd of Florida State and #83 William Lee of Harvard...finished a strong fall season with a 6-2 record … won the South Carolina Fall Invitational singles championship in his flight by defeating Paul Goode of UNC Greensboro 6-3; 6-1 in the championship match...named to the 2002 ACC Academic Honor Roll...winner of the 2002 Baldridge Integrity Award.

As a Freshman (at Kansas) – Ranked #11 in doubles play and #16 in singles in the central region … Big XII Conference runnerup in #6 singles and #3 doubles … finished second on the KU team in singles wins … awarded men’s tennis scholar athlete of the year award as a freshman Jayhawk… made the Dean’s List both semesters of his freshman year.

Prep – Four-time state champion at Rockhurst High School...graduated in May 2000...won the 2000 Missouri state high school singles championship and was the runnerup in 1999...was the state doubles runnerup in 1998…named to the first team Kansas City All-Metro team all four years…selected as the Kansas City All-Metro Player of the Year as a junior and a senior … a member of the National Honor Society … graduated Magna Cum Lauda with a GPA over 4.0 … editor of the All-American and All-Missouri school paper and the Prep News.
