Tar Heel senior Roan Jones dropped his first-round match at the ITA All-American Championships on Wednesday afternoon in the first round of the ITA All-American Championships at the Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.

Baylor's Connor Schalkwyk defeated Jones in his UNC debut by a score of 6-4, 7-6 (4) to advance to the second round.

Schalkwyk broke Jones to take a 5-4 lead in the first set, then held serve in the next game to capture the first frame, 6-4.

Jones held serve to win the first game of the second set and both players did so until Schalkwyk broke Jones to take a 3-2 advantage. Schalkwyk made it 4-2 after the next game before Jones roared back.

Jones responded strongly by holding serve in four consecutive points and draw closer at 4-3 in the second, then broke Schalkwyk to tie things at 4-4. Jones made it three wins in a row when he took a 5-4 lead, and the set eventually went to a tiebreaker, which Schalkwyk won, 7-4.
