Saw action in 19 games and made five starts, two at first base and three at designated hitter • Recorded three hits on the season in 23 at-bats • Added one double and scored two runs • Made first career start versus Old Dominion April 1 and notched first career base hit and first career run • Recorded first hit in ACC play against Maryland April 25 • Doubled and scored a run against Winthrop April 15 • Saw lone postseason action versus Kansas May 31 with an inning at first base • Drew a walk in first career plate appearance against VMI Feb. 20. Summer 2009: Played with the Duluth Huskies of the Northwoods League • Hit .213 (19-89) with six runs and seven RBI in 32 games.

Drafted in the 46th round of the 2008 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Atlanta Braves but elected to come to Carolina • Standout shortstop at Green Valley High School for coach Nick Garrittano • Team captain of high school team • Played on the 2005 USA Trails Team • Honored as a Scholar Athlete and volunteered with the Special Olympics in high school • Played for the ABD Bulldogs in the summer of 2008.
