Navy Hangs On For A 5-4 Win In Game II On Friday
October 9, 2026 | Baseball
Chapel Hill, NC--Â Â The Navy squad took a 5-1 lead into the top of the seventh and final inning before barely holding for a 5-4 victory in Game II of the Fall World Series on Friday afternoon.
Blue took an early 1-0 lead in the second on Blaize Johnson's RBI-single to right. Navy came back with a four-run bottom of the third. They loaded the bases with no outs before Gavin Gallaher's sacrifice fly to left made it 1-1. A second run scored on a bases-loaded walk, then two more scored on a throwing error.
Navy picked up what would prove to be the winning run on Davis Baker's run-scoring double to right for a 5-1 lead in the sixth. Blue fought back in the seventh with a three-run rally. Erik Paulsen ripped a two-run single to right to cut the lead to 5-3, then a run scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-4 with just one out and a runner on third. Sean Hurley then retired the final two batters on fly outs to pick up the save and give Navy their second consecutive win.
Jimmy Voorhies, Jackson Rose and Sean Hurley threw for Navy, with Caden Glauber and Walker McDuffie seeing action for Blue. Voorhies gave up one run in 3.0 innings, giving up one hit while striking out five. Hurley gave up no runs while retiring the game's last two hitters. McDuffie gave up one run in 3.2 innings on two hits while striking out six of the fourteen hitters he faced.
CJ Egrie made the defensive play of the game, leaping high to rob Erik Paulsen of a home run to right-center.
NOTE:Â Due to expected bad weather, Game 3 has been postponed until Monday.
