Women’s Tennis Continues Strong Showing At ITA All-Americans

CARY, N.C. – Carolina women's tennis began singles play in the Qualifying Draw of the ITA All-American Championships on Monday at Cary Tennis Park. Four Tar Heels earned wins to advance to the next round of the draw.
Alanis Hamilton started her tournament run with a straight-set win over her opponent from Iowa State. Along with Hamilton, no. 85 Alexis Nguyen and no. 95 Nicole Khirin made their first appearance at All-Americans in the Qualifying Draw. Nguyen secured her first-round win after a tiebreak in the second set. Khirin cruised to a win over her opponent from Alabama, holding her to two points or less in each set.
After advancing out of the Pre-Qualifying Draw, Anna Frey continued her strong start at All-Americans by recording a dominant, straight-set win over 17th seeded Vilma Krebs Hyllested from the University of San Diego.

ITA All-American Championships
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association will hold their 43rd annual All-American Championship this coming week. The tournament continues to highlight the nation's top tennis players while providing the athletes an opportunity to clinch a spot at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships.
Ten singles players will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship (eight main draw quarterfinalists & two feed-in consolation finalists). Meanwhile, five doubles teams (5) will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship through the All-American Championships (four main draw semifinalists, consolation champion).
