Three Heels Advance To Main Draw At ITA All-Americans

CARY, N.C. – Carolina women's tennis competed in the final round of the qualifying draw at the ITA All-American Championships Tuesday at Cary Tennis Park. Three Tar Heels won their matches, punching their ticket into the main draw of the tournament. Those qualifiers include Anna Frey, No. 95 Nicole Khirin and No. 85 Alexis Nguyen.
Anna Frey became just the fourth player to advance to the All-American Main Draw from Pre-Qualifying after winning five singles matches. To secure her spot in the Main Draw, the sophomore topped No. 91 Chloe Noel from Oklahoma in straight sets.
No. 85 Alexis Nguyen cruised past her opponent from NC State to advance. The freshman now has three wins this season.
After a walkover result, No. 95 Nicole Khirin also moves on to the Main Draw.
Main Draw action will begin Wednesday at 9 a.m. UNC will have four singles (No. 21 Tatum Evans, Anna Frey, No. 95 Nicole Khirin, and No. 85 Alexis Nguyen) competing in the draw along with four doubles (No. 8 Zampardo/Maltby, No. 14 Hamilton/Frey, No. 15 Evans/Khirin, and Rabman/Manning).

ITA All-American Championships
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association will hold their 43rd annual All-American Championship this coming week. The tournament continues to highlight the nation's top tennis players while providing the athletes an opportunity to clinch a spot at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships.
Ten singles players will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship (eight main draw quarterfinalists & two feed-in consolation finalists). Meanwhile, five doubles teams (5) will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship through the All-American Championships (four main draw semifinalists, consolation champion).
