Carolina Baseball To Clash With Charlotte On ACC Network
April 7, 2026 | Baseball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Diamond Heels finish up a five game home stand with an in-state battle against Charlotte on Tuesday night. The game will be aired live on ACC Network, Carolina baseball's third TV appearance this season.Â
The head coaches in this matchup have a very deep relationship that started when Forbes was brought back to UNC as pitching coach in 2006 with Woodard on that team. The two would go to Omaha in both '06 and '07 together with Woodard going on to win the Patterson Medal, UNC Athletics' highest honor. The two also worked together as assistant coaches from 2016-2019 at UNC until Woodard left to take the Charlotte job. Forbes was even in Woodard's wedding back in 2024.Â

SENT THE BIRDS BACK NORTH
➤ Carolina hosted Boston College over the weekend and came away with a series win despite dropping the opener on Thursday night. 5-2 and 8-7 victories on Friday and Saturday gave UNC its fourth straight ACC series.
➤ The last time the Heels dropped game one and still won the series was at Duke in 2024, a weekend that helped Carolina lock up the ACC Coastal Division title.Â
➤ In Friday's bounce back game, UNC took an early lead thanks to early RBIs from Jake Schaffner and Gavin Gallaher and never looked back. The trio of Jason DeCaro, Caden Glauber, and Walker McDuffie held BC without a hit until 7.2 innings of this game had already been thrown and just three total on the day.Â
➤ Down four in the finale, Carolina needed five unanswered runs and lockdown pitching down the stretch to take the series. Owen Hull knocked the game winning single in the seventh that rewarded excellent work from Jackson Rose and Walker McDuffie who threw the final 3.2 frames and combined to surrender just one hit and no runs with four strikeouts.
OUTRAN THE CAMELS IN MARATHON MIDWEEK CONTEST
➤ It took four hours and forty-six minutes and 14 innings, but Carolina eventually came away with a 5-4 victory over a red-hot Campbell team on Tuesday night in Chapel Hill.Â
➤ The rock fight ended with a Rom Kellis V RBI single in the bottom of the 14th after the two teams had failed to produce a run in the five previous extra innings. Campbell scored their fourth and final run in the top of the fourth and would be shutout for the final 10 frames.
➤ UNC needed a season-high 49 at-bats to get their fifth and final run and claim their third extra innings walk-off of the season. Seven different UNC arms combined to throw 225 pitches, both highs for the 2026 campaign.
➤ Jackson Rose was the hero of the night, shutting down the Fighting Camels' attack down the stretch. He would finish with a career long outing of 6.0 IP with zero runs allowed on two hits with five strikeouts.
➤ Beyond just Rose, Carolina got a combined 6.1 shutout frames with eight punchouts from Walker McDuffie, Camron Seagraves, Matthew Matthijs, and Tom Chmielewski (who got the win).
NON-CON COMBAT
➤ The Heels have compiled a 117-35-1 (.768) record in games against non-ACC opponents under Forbes. This team is currently 16-1-1 out of conference.Â
➤ Last season, they were 25-4 against out of conference foes. The 2024 team was 24-6.
➤ Since 2020, UNC has won (or split) 13 of its 14 three-game non-conference weekend series with a 33-7-1 mark in that span.
NO PLACE LIKE THE BOSH
➤ The Tar Heels have won 77.2 percent of their home games under Scott Forbes, going 160-47-1.
➤ The 2025 squad racked up a 29-9 (.763) home record, winning five of seven series.Â
➤ The Tar Heels boasted a 37-3 record at Boshamer Stadium in 2024, winning a program record 92.5 percent of its games at home.
➤ It was the 13th time in program history the Tar Heels won 30 or more home games.
➤ Originally opened in 1972 before reopening in 2009 after a $26 million renovation, the Bosh has been the site for many magical memories. Since '09, the Heels have hosted 10 regionals and eight supers in their palace affectionately referred to as the "Augusta National of College Baseball."Â
