Baseball Dominates Finale, 12-5, Takes Series At Clemson
April 12, 2026 | Baseball
CLEMSON, S.C. – The bats provided their biggest output of the weekend to help Carolina baseball win Sunday afternoon's rubber match against Clemson 12-5 and thus take the series on the road in Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
Â
The No. 6 Tar Heels (30-6-1, 13-5 ACC) became the first team to win a road series between these two esteemed programs since Carolina did so in a sweep back in 2012. In doing so, they have matched the historic 2013 squad for their best first 10 game road record this century at 9-1.
Â
The Diamond Heels used 16 hits, three doubles, two homers, eight walks and six hit-by-pitches to become the third team in the country to the 30-win mark. Every Carolina player that came to the plate reached safely at least one time, forcing a Clemson pitching staff that was already tired from the 14-inning outing the night before to throw nearly 200 pitches.
Â
The tone was set in the top of the first when UNC's captain Gavin Gallaher launched a moonshot in honor of the Artemis II over the fence in left that put his team in front early. It was his team-leading eighth long ball of the year and his fifth in the first inning. Carolina is 5-0 when he homers in his initial AB. He would add three walks on the day to help him finish with three runs scored in total.
Â
Owen Hull was the offensive MVP for the Tar Heels, continuing along his torrid pace that his him hitting a ridiculous .455 in conference play. In the series finale against the Tigers, Hull went 5-for-6 with a double, a home run, five RBIs, and two runs scored. He is the first Diamond Heel to have five hits in a game since Danny Serretti in 2019.
Â
Macon Winslow, serving as the designated hitter on Sunday, provided two crucial hits that cemented his team's grip on the game. The first broke an unfortunate streak for the Tar Heels, as he laced a bases loaded single to left that scored a pair and put UNC up three. On the weekend, Carolina went 1-10 at the plate with the bases juiced.
Â
His second was a double down the left field line that scored Gallaher. Hull singled him to bring him around right after.
Â
Another streak for ended on the afternoon for Carolina, as Folger Boaz (3-0) picked up the win to become the first Tar Heel starter to earn a win in the last 11 games played. The veteran lefty put together one of his best outings since he injured his elbow two years ago, throwing 5.0 innings with five strikeouts, seven hits, three runs, and one walk. Â
Â
Walker McDuffie, as he often is, was the star reliever on the day for Carolina. He logged a nearly flawless 3.0 IP with just one hit and one walk to account for, giving up no runs and punching out three.
Â
The Tar Heels will return to the friendly confines of Boshamer Stadium on Tuesday night for an in-state matchup with UNCW. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. ET on ACCNX.
