Rowing Kicks Off Season Strong At Oak Ridge Invitational Opening Day

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. --Â In day one of racing at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational, North Carolina rowing came out hot with multiple first place finishes against ranked squads from Melton Lake.
"Today was a very positive day of racing for the program, and just a positive day as a whole." said head coach Erin Neppel. "We had some crews that went out strong and were able to finish that way. We went 10-2 on that day and are excited for a day of racing tomorrow."
"It's also very early and we are pumped that next week is spring training. We do expect to do a ton of selections as we build into the spring."
With five first place finishes in the morning session, Carolina started off the season on a high note with a strong statement from all boats on the water. The 4V8, 3V8, 2V4, V4 and 2V8 all raced off to first place finishes while the V8 boat came in second in the morning sessions.
The Tar Heels carried their morning momentum into the afternoon, with five first place finishes again from the 4V8, 3V8, 2V4, V4 and 2V8 crews to wrap the day strong.
Carolina returns to the water tomorrow morning for its final races at Melton Lake and the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational, with the 3V8 and 4V8 boats starting off at 9:36 a.m. ET.
