No. 1 Women’s Lacrosse Handles No. 19 JMU In Season Opener, 19-11

HARRISONBURG, VA. – Top-ranked North Carolina women's lacrosse opened the 2026 season with a 19-11 win at No. 19 James Madison on Friday afternoon. The Tar Heels improved their nation-leading winning streak to 23 games, which is the third longest in program history and the 10th longest in NCAA history.
Darcy Felter was one of four Tar Heels with a hat trick on the day, matching her career high with five goals. Addison Pattillo added four goals, while Chloe Humphrey and Kaleigh Harden each had three. Humphrey added four assists on the day, while Kate Levy finished with three.

- Chloe Humphrey opened the scoring with a goal just a minute and 10 seconds into the season.
- Sam Forrest started right where she left off last season, causing a turnover and scooping a groundball which led to a Darcy Felter goal.
- Darcy Felter scored two in-a-row to give the Heels a 3-0 lead with 8:41 left in the first, forcing a JMU timeout.
- Kaleigh Harden notched her first of the season at 4:51 of the first to make it 4-1.
- Addison Pattillo got in on the act with two minutes left in the quarter to make it 5-1.
- Felter netted her third for the sixth hat trick of her career.
- Pattillo added another to give the Heels a 7-2 lead.
- Caroline Godine opened her season account with a woman-up goal to make it 8-3.
- Humphrey scored a rocket on a free position and added another to secure her hat trick.
- Godine added a second to make it 11-5 late in the second.
- Eliza Osburn got on the board with 12 seconds left to give UNC a 12-5 halftime lead.
- Pattillo tallied her third and fourth of the game within a minute to give the Heels a 14-5 lead midway through the third.
- Felter notched her fourth and fifth of the game to push the Tar Heels' lead to 16-5.
- JMU rallied and scored five in-a-row to make it 16-10.
- Harden ended the Dukes run with her second of the game followed by Reese King's first career goal to give UNC an 18-10 advantage midway through the fourth.
- Harden became the fourth Tar Heel with a hat trick, pushing the lead to 19-10.
