Gause Named To Doak Walker Award Watch List

CHAPEL HILL – North Carolina running back Davion Gause has been named to the 2025 Doak Walker Award Watch List, the PwC SMU Athletic Forum announced Tuesday afternoon.

The award, presented annually to the nation's most outstanding running back, is named for former SMU and three-time All-America running back Doak Walker.
Â
A sophomore for the Tar Heels, Gause appeared in all 13 contests last fall, earning the start for the Carolina in the Fenway Bowl.

The Opa-locka, Fla., native finished his rookie campaign in Chapel Hill with 67 carries for 326 yards and four touchdowns, highlighted by a season best 106 yards on the ground in his second collegiate game versus Charlotte.

The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name 10 semifinalists and then three finalists, as voted on by the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee, in November. The committee will cast a second vote in December to determine the recipient. The National Selection Committee comprises past recipients, former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members, and selected special representatives. The recipient of the 2025 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on December 12, 2024.
