April 2, 2025 | Volleyball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Head volleyball coach Mike Schall announced two newcomers to the coaching staff, Shaun Ermi and Nia Parker-Robinson, as well as Carson Overbeck staying with Carolina as a graduate assistant.
Â
"We are excited to welcome Shaun Ermi to the Carolina volleyball program," Schall said. "Shaun has distinguished himself as a great teacher and brings a wealth of experience working with some of the best coaches in college men's and women's volleyball. He is thoughtful and creative in his approach to coaching and wants to be great at what he does. He has studied the game at the highest levels, and we look forward to the contributions he will make in our program."
Â
Emri makes his way to Chapel Hill after spending one year at Pitt, where he help guide the Panthers to a Final Four appearance. Prior to Pitt he was at Loyola Chicago, working primarily with the pin hitters and serve receive unit. In 2022 he was a volunteer assistant at Ohio State for both the women's and men's teams where he helped the Buckeyes make the Elite Eight for the first time since 2004 on the women's side and the quarterfinals for the men.
Â
As a player he won two national championships at Springfield College and went on to finish his eligibility at the University of Essex.
Â
"We are grateful that Nia has decided to come back to Carolina as an assistant coach," Coach Schall added. "Beyond Nia's decorated playing career at Northwestern and during her fifth year at Carolina, she has been the ultimate teammate in everything she pursues. Nia makes the people around her better, and I can think of no greater trait as a coach. Her experience as a professional player in the U.S. and overseas will benefit our team and staff."
Â
Parker-Robinson returns to Carolina as an assistant coach after a decorated playing career. In her one year as a Tar Heel she played in all 30 matches of the 2021 season, leading the team with 405 kills which was the fifth-most in the ACC garnering her All-ACC Second Team honors. She also was named to the 2021 AVCA All-East Coast Region Team. Prior to playing at Carolina she spent four years at Northwestern where she played in 100 marches, racking up 1,198 kills, 84 blocks, 326 digs, 33 service aces, and 13 assists. She finished fifth in the Big Ten her sophomore year with 394 kills.
Â
"Throughout Carson's playing career, we have discussed her desire to become a coach. We are proud that she is starting her journey as a grad assistant at a place that means so much to her. Every team Carson is part of is better because of who she is as a person and leader." Schall said.
Â
Overbeck stays home after a three-year career where she appeared in 70 matches as a defensive specialist. She recorded 96 digs in her career.
