#15 Volleyball Sweeps Virginia Tech, Earns 20th Win
November 16, 2025 | Volleyball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - In the penultimate home match, No. 15 Carolina swept Virginia Tech (25-20, 25-19, 25-12), winning its sixth straight match against the Hokies, improving to 20-1 at home against the conference rivals. The Tar Heels have earned their second consecutive season of at least 20 wins, as Carolina is now 20-5 and riding a three-match win streak. Head coach Schall is now the third head coach in program history to reach the 20-win mark in two of their first three seasons. It's the first time with back-to-back 20-win seasons since the Tar Heels reached the mark in seven straight seasons between 2010-2016.
Â
Carolina outplayed Virginia Tech in every facet of the game, leading the match in every major statistical category except for attacks. Per usual, Safi Hampton recorded her 21st game of the season with at least double-digit kills. Sienna Cozza notched her second career double-double with 12 assists and 10 digs.
Â
Early in the first set, the two teams exchanged blows as Virginia Tech kept the score close, but after back-to-back hustle plays from Sienna Cozza to score twice for the Tar Heels, putting them up 17-13, Virginia Tech was forced to call a timeout, and then Carolina cruised to a 25-20 victory.
Â
The second set started similarly to the first, as Virginia Tech kept the score close early on. The only time Carolina did not have the lead was at 10-10. After the tie, the Tar Heels responded with a 4-0 run that put Carolina in the driver's seat for good, never letting the lead dip below two.
Â
The Tar Heels closed out the win with a statement in the third set, holding the Hokies to just twelve points in the final set. The Tar Heels imposed their will with three runs of at least 5-0.Â
Â
Carolina will head out on the final regular-season road trip for a three-match swing against Florida State and Miami next week, and then Virginia the week of Thanksgiving.
