CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina baseball came up just short of a sweep of Miami, losing a 4-2 contest on Sunday afternoon.

The Tar Heels (21-7, 6-6 ACC) lose the final game, but win the series against the Hurricanes. It is the second time they've done so under head coach Scott Forbes and the first time since his first season in 2021.

Kane Kepley led Carolina off with a run in the first, scoring off a Hunter Stokely RBI. Starting every game at the top of the batting order, Kepley has scored in 11 of his first trips to the plate.

The Tar Heel bats never really got going beyond that first inning, however. Carolina put at least one runner on in six of the nine frames but just couldn't quite bring anyone around. A Miami run in the sixth tied the game and it would stay that way until the ninth when the Hurricanes were able to plate three to take the lead.

Carolina's offense loaded the bases in the fifth with two outs, but a Miami web gem hung a zero on the scoreboard. Then in the ninth, Jackson Van De Brake knocked a triple past the right fielder to score Sawyer Black and cut the Cane's lead to two. That would be all for the Tar Heels on the day though.

Reigning ACC Pitcher of the Week Aidan Haugh was solid once again for the Tar Heels, even if not as dominant as his complete game, one-hit shutout last weekend. Today he went 4.2 innings and once again allowed no runs on six hits and no walks.

The series win squares the Tar Heels up at 6-6 in conference play heading into a big weekend series at home against Duke. Forbes' squad will first return to the Bosh on Tuesday night to face Gardner-Webb at 6 p.m. ET.
