March 22, 2025 | Softball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina bats were thumping in its 13-5 six inning win over Louisville on Saturday afternoon at Anderson Softball Stadium.
The Tar Heels racked up 14 hits and got started early, Alex Coleman notched the 200th hit of her career in the first, after two more hits after her to load the bases, Kiannah Pierce drove in two runs to even things back up at 2-2.
In the third the party really got started. Carlie Myrtle clubbed her 10th home run of the season to deep left center field to make it a 5-2 ball game. Two batters later Reaghan Carlson sent one out to left to go up 6-2. It was her second homer of the season.
In the fourth Sanaa Thompson drove in a pair to go up 8-2. With the bases loaded, Carlson caused some chaos, plating all three runners after the left fielder lost the ball in the sun making it an 11-2 ball game. Carlson's four RBI sets a new career-high for the catcher.
Louisville was able to extend the game by scoring three in the fifth inning. Once the bottom half rolled around, Thompson had enough and sent all the Carolina fans home happy with a run rule walk off homer to center field.
Carolina looks to take the series in the rubber match tomorrow at noon from Anderson Stadium on ACCNX.
