CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 19 Stanford was able to fend off softball in a 15-12 slugfest.

The bats were going early with Stanford scoring two in the first. Carolina wasn't going to back down though, using an Emily LeGette RBI triple, MC Eaton RBI single, and a Michele Tarpey three run homer to score five in the first.

Stanford was able to regain a 7-5 lead in the top half of the second. Sanaa Thompson would get UNC back in it with a solo home run. After Lexie Roberts worked a walk, Shelby Barbee blasted her 10th home run of the season to jump back in front 8-7.

After a scoreless third inning, the Cardinal plated four runs to regain the lead. They would end up taking a 15-9 lead into the seventh inning.

A Roberts single, a bases loaded walk and hit by pitch allowed three Tar Heel runs to come across. With the bases loaded and two outs, Stanford was able to close it out to hold on for the win.
