Ethan Strand Shatters Collegiate Mile Record
February 1, 2025 | Track & Field
BOSTON – Every time Ethan Strand (3:48.32) has stepped on the track this season, he has set a new NCAA record. Strand shattered Cooper Teare's NCAA record in the mile at the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic. Strand ran the third-fastest indoor mile of all time. Strand is now the first college runner to post a sub 3:50 mile time.
"Every day, I think I'm looking at the next two great American distance runners [Ethan Strand and Parker Wolfe], "Head Coach Miltenberg said. "I say that not just because they're my guys but because I've seen enough context. These are the next two great American distance runners."
The last time Strand and his teammate Parker Wolfe competed in Boston, they produced the first and second fastest 3000m time in NCAA history.
After Strand's legendary performance in the first heat, three more Tar Heels ran all-time marks in the mile; Aiden Neal (3:56.01) moved into fourth all-time.
Patrick Anderson (3:58.69) sits at seventh all-time and Colton Sands (3:58.82) settled in at eighth all-time. The entire top ten in the mile is sub four minute miles.
Andrew Regnier (1:48.97) notched an ACC standard time in 800m, running less than a second slower than his school record from last season.
