Field Hockey Takes Care Of Business, Wins 4-1 At Old Dominion
October 5, 2025 | Field Hockey
NORFOLK, Va. – Carolina field hockey got four goals from four different scorers across three different quarters to take home a 4-1 win over Old Dominion from LR Hill Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Â
The Tar Heels (10-1, 3-1 ACC) scored four or more for the sixth time this season and controlled the game from the onset. In a matchup between the sports' two most historic programs, owners of 20 national titles between them, UNC upped their winning streak against the Monarchs to 12 straight dating back to 2011.
Â
The true freshman Isabel Boere got the party started with a score off a penalty corner in the sixth minute of the game to give the Heels a lead they wouldn't relinquish. It's the fifth goal of the season for the young Netherlands transplant.
Â
The next goal came off the stick of Kara Heck. The grad transfer pulled a veteran move, taking a free hit quickly and rounding the Old Dominion defense in a flash to double Carolina's advantage.
Â
ODU pulled a goal back to make the halftime score 2-1, but just three minutes after the intermission Dani Mendez put away her sixth goal of the year off a ricochet to give UNC a little insurance. The Virginia transfer continues to be a regular on the scoresheet, up to 20 points on the season which is already tied for the second most in her career.
Â
This game's final flourish came from another familiar source, this time it was Charly Bruder who got on the scoresheet. Since returning from an injury that kept her out of the opening weekend, the junior forward has nine goals in nine games for the Heels.
Â
Carolina enters a big conference weekend with games against No. 2 Virginia and No. 18 Louisville coming up next. Friday night's matchup in Charlottesville is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. ET with a Sunday afternoon homestand against the Cardinals set for 12 p.m. on ACC Network.
