Men’s Soccer, Mercer Play To Scoreless Draw Tuesday Night

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The third-ranked North Carolina men's soccer team (5-0-3) and Mercer (3-2-4) played to a scoreless draw, Tuesday night in non-conference play.
How It Happened
• The Tar Heels had six shot attempts in the first half, including two each from Martin Vician and Riley Thomas.
• In the 31st minute, Vician's shot attempt off a pass from Lucas Ross sailed just over the cross.
• Coming out of the half, Mercer's Dalton Reyna forced a shot attempt, stopped by Andrew Cordes.
• Following a Tate Johnson shot attempt, Matthew Acosta's shot on goal in the 54th frame was halted.
• Ahmad Al-Qaq had a step on his defender in the 71st minute, with the shot off his right foot stopped.
• Just moments later, Luke Hille's first shot attempt of the night was denied.
• In the 76th minute, the game entered a 34-minute weather delay.
• After the delay, Vician's shot was deflected and saved by the Bears' goalkeeper in the 83rd minute, keeping the match scoreless.

• Tuesday was the second all-time meeting between the two programs, the first since 2003.
• Carolina outshot the Bears 17-6 in the matchup, led by Vician's game-high four shots.
