CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina volleyball team (6-1) is closing out non-conference play with a pair of Big Ten opponents, hosting Michigan (9-0) and Michigan State (6-3) for the ACC-B1G Challenge in Carmichael Arena this weekend.

First serve against the Wolverines is set for 7 p.m. on Friday. Sunday's matchup with the Spartans is scheduled for 1 p.m. Both matches will air on ACCNX with Matt Krause on the call.

Notables:

Three Tar Heels are coming off double-double performances in Carolina's four-set victory at K-State: Mabrey Shaffmaster (20 kills, 11 digs), Safi Hampton (14 kills, 16 digs) and Zoe Behrendt (21 assists, 11 digs). Behrendt has a team-best two double-doubles on the season
Shaffmaster (MVP), Hampton and Maddy May were all named to the K-State All-Tournament team last weekend
Shaffmaster is currently at 113 career service aces. She needs four more to tie for tenth-most in program history (117) with Ashley Powers (1993-96). She's had at least one ace in all seven matches this season
Lauren Schutter spent her first season at Michigan State in 2022, redshirting
UNC assistant coach Parker Mikesch and Michigan head coach Erin Virtue spent the summer together with USA Volleyball, helping train the United States women's national volleyball team. Mikesch was a volunteer and Virtue is an assistant coach for Team USA
