CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 19 Carolina volleyball moved to 2-0 with a dominating sweep over UNCW (25-13, 25-12, 15-10). The Tar Heels hit a stellar .470 on the day with 12 different players registering a kill. The .470 mark is the highest hitting percentage since the Tar Heels hit .489 against Clemson on Nov. 11, 2016. The win marks the fourth consecutive 2-0 start for Carolina.

"I think something that we talked about from yesterday to today is just how disciplined we want to play", Head Coach Mike Schall said. "I thought the team did a great job executing and really preparing for a short amount of time".

Fifth year Chelsea Thorpe brought the energy from point one, single handedly giving UNC an early 3-0 lead. With the Tar Heels hitting .515 in the first set; there was never a tie or a lead change with them leading wire to wire. Bridget Malone was on fire early as well, racking up seven first set kills to go with Thorpe's eight. The team as a whole had an outstanding 19 kills in the frame.

The second set was much of the same from Carolina, they hit .444 with 14 kills to go along with five blocks. The only tie and lead change of the match happened in this set when UNCW scored the first point of the set which was followed by UNC snagging a 2-1 lead and never looking back.

In the third set, freshman Addison West made her collegiate debut, immediately getting her first career kill to put the Tar Heels up 1-0. She proved to be a spark plug as Carolina opened the set on an 8-0 run before a Seahawks timeout.

"I see what she does every day, and she is a big-time volleyball player… Every day she's challenged to be out on the floor, and today is no exception… Addie has a very bright future and she's off to a great start." Coach Schall said.

The Omaha, Neb. native finished the set with four kills, hitting .667. On her first appearance she said: "It felt great. I was excited and I know my team was excited too. I could hear them. It was so much fun."

Through two matches the Tar Heels are hitting .370 as a team while holding opponents to just a .055 hitting percentage.

Carolina now sits at 2-0 with a Thursday matchup against JMU at Carmichael waiting for them. The Tar Heels then square off with Colorado State on Friday night, closing out the three match homestand. Tickets can be purchased here.
