Track & Field Has Strong Showing At Doc Hale VT Meet

BLACKSBURG, Va. – UNC Track and Field concluded the Doc Hale VT Meet with numerous personal bests and a few outstanding performances this weekend.
The Tar Heels began Friday with senior Danni Stoughton finishing second in the women's pentathlon. She captured first-place in the shot put with a throw of 11.07m and placed second in the 60-meter hurdles (9.17), long jump (5.28m) and 800-meter run (2:25.20), with a fourth-place finish in the high jump (1.53m).
Junior Paul Signorelli recorded the sixth-best vault in school history with a height of 5.22m to earn seventh place in the men's pole vault. He posted the third-highest score in the event among NCAA competitors. Senior Ben Finger finished one spot behind his teammate with a vault of 5.07m.
Freshman Megan Kelleghan and sophomore Peyton Berryman posted the identical vault of 3.90m in the women's pole vault, the second-highest mark in the competition which was a season-best score for Perryman. Freshman Vivan Stovall's vault of 3.75 was a personal-best and fifth-best mark of the event.
UNC's Aaliyah Berry and Kalani Witherspoon finished second and third, respectively, in the women's 60-meter hurdles. Berry posted a personal-best time of 8.39, finishing a mere 0.05 out of first, while Witherspoon crossed the finish line in 8.53.
Blaise Atkinson posted a personal-best time of 8.01 in the men's 60-meter hurdles and claimed third place.
On Saturday, multiple Tar Heels continued the weekend trend of picking up personal best along with season bests.
In the morning, Max Stakun-Pickering finished third (5,576 points) in the men's heptathlon, followed by teammate Sam Corley who finished in fourth (5,551 points). Both Stakun-Pickering and Corley set new personal bests with their final scores. A third Tar Heel, Bryce Kazmaier finished in eighth place.
In Saturday's field events, Sydney Banks and Tiffany Bautista began the day with season bests in the women's high jump. Banks tied for second place while Bautista placed tenth.
In Saturday's track events, Reece Morgan picked up a fifth-place finish and personal best in the men's 200 meter with a time of 21.82 seconds.
Carolina ended the day with the men's 4x400 meter relay team winning the event with a time of 3:16:61.
