
Osuna Hits Two Homers To Power Baseball By Longwood

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Alberto Osuna hit two home runs to lead No. 17 North Carolina to a 12-3 win over Longwood at Boshamer Stadium on Wednesday.
The Tar Heels (7-2) collected double-digit hits for the second consecutive game after recording 13 last night in their win over VCU. Osuna finished 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and a double in addition to his fourth and fifth home runs.
Freshman Luke Stevenson registered two hits and drove in three runs. Graduate transfer Anthony Donofrio produced three runs with an RBI double and a bases loaded walk.
Matthew Matthijs (3-0) pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief with a pair of strikeouts to earn the win. Aidan Haugh fanned three in 1.2 innings before Ryan Fischer tossed the final three to earn his first save as a Tar Heel.
Osuna launched his first home run of the game to lead off the bottom of the second after the Lancers got on the board first in the top half of the frame.
Donofrio put the Heels ahead with a two-run double in the third, and Osuna followed with a double to plate Casey Cook with the game-winning run to give UNC a 4-1 lead.
Donofrio drew a bases loaded walk to plate the first of four runs in the fifth inning. Cook sprinted home on a wild pitch to score the next run, and Stevenson drove home a pair with a single.
The Lancers scored two unearned runs in the seventh, with Logan Janney and Blagen Pado racing home on a pair of Carolina fielding errors after Jucie Tobin's single.
Osuna led off the bottom half of the seventh with a moon shot to center field to start another four-run inning. Gavin Gallaher walked, stole second, and scored on Stevenson's hit through the right side. Alex Madera drove in the third run of the frame with a ground ball to second, and former Longwood all-conference player Eliot Dix dashed home on a wild pitch with Tar Heels' 12th run.
Longwood freshman Owens Simmons (0-1) gave up seven runs in his first collegiate start. UNC drew five walks and registered five hits in 4.0 innings against the Greensboro, N.C., native. The Lancers bullpen surrendered five runs, five hits and five base on balls in the final four innings.
Carolina continues its five-game homestand Friday as it opens a three-game series against Princeton, coached by former Tar Heel All-America Scott Bradley. The first pitch is slated for 4 p.m. at Boshamer Stadium.
