November 14, 2024 | Cross Country
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina Cross Country heads south this week to compete in the Southeast Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 15. The Tar Heels are looking to earn a berth in next week's NCAA National Championship race. Carolina can earn a spot by performing well this weekend.Â
The Tar Heels will be racing at the Winthrop University Recreation Complex, Rock Hill, SC.
The women's 6K starts at 10:30 a.m. EST, and the men's 10K begins at 11:30 AM. Fans can follow along with live stat updates on Flash Results.
The men's team is looking to three-peat since it has won the last two regional championships. Parker Wolfe vies to become the first male Tar Heel to earn four NCAA All-Regional Honors. Patrick Anderson is on the hunt to become the second Tar Heel to win three with Wolfe being the first.
On the women's side, the team is eager to improve on its fifth-place finish last season. Brynn Brown and Sasha Neglia are pursuing their third career NCAA All-Regional Honors.Â
NCAA Championship qualifying standards:
Thirty-one teams are selected to participate in the NCAA Cross Country championship. The top-two teams from each of the nine regions automatically qualify. Thirteen additional teams are selected at-large.
The first four regional finishers, not from an automatic qualifying or at-large team, also secure an auto-bid to the championships.
Thirty-eight individuals were selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process. All individual qualifiers finished in the top 25 in their regions.
