July 16, 2026 | Cross Country, Track & Field
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – A three-time Division I All-America in cross country is joining North Carolina track & field / cross country as an assistant coach, with Brodey Hasty set to coach the Tar Heel distance runners.
"I am really excited to welcome Brodey to our staff. His experience as a core leader and elite athlete on one of the most successful teams in NCAA history gives him exactly the perspective to mentor our young teams as we continue climbing back up the national ladder," said Director of Track & Field / Cross Country Chris Miltenberg. "I had the opportunity to watch Brodey develop from an outstanding high school athlete into a fierce competitor and selfless leader at NAU, helping lead the program to three NCAA championships. He brings incredible energy, enthusiasm and passion to everything he does, and I have no doubt those qualities will make him an outstanding coach, mentor and recruiter for Carolina."
"I am honored to join the UNC team alongside such talented student-athletes and coaches. I am particularly drawn to the programs exceptional team culture and look forward to cultivating it further," said Hasty. "As a coach, I am passionate about working with individuals who are deeply committed to supporting one another daily. I look forward to beginning our work together and exploring our full potential!"
Hasty heads to Chapel Hill following one season as an assistant cross country coach at Lipscomb in Nashville. With the Bisons, Hasty assisted them to a second-place finish at the 2025 ASUN Cross Country Championships while seven earned ASUN honors.
A three-time national champion in cross country at Northern Arizona, Hastey scored on five NAU Cross Country National Championship teams. While at NAU, he also qualified twice for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in the 5000m.
"Brodey Hasty has always been at his best when the moment mattered most. He was a leader in a championship culture with a remarkable ability to deliver when the pressure was highest. Those qualities are difficult to teach, and they're exactly what will make him an outstanding coach at UNC Chapel Hill," said NAU Former Director of Cross Country and Track & Field.
"What makes Brodey special, though, goes beyond his athletic achievements. He has an authentic way of connecting with people and earning their trust. He leads with humility, invests deeply in the athletes around him, and has a genuine passion for helping others reach their potential. Those are qualities that leave a lasting impact long beyond the races.
I'm incredibly proud to see him join the coaching staff at UNC Chapel Hill. They're adding a coach with exceptional experience in both culture and competition as an athlete himself, who now has the opportunity to pass on that experience in leading the next generation of great distance runners at UNC Chapel Hill."
Hasty boasts two degrees from NAU, earning his undergraduate in philosophy and a masters in educational leadership.
