CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – With fall on the horizon, North Carolina Track & Field and Cross Country has announced the addition of Ann Dunn as head coach for women's cross country and an assistant for track & field. Dunn will coach the women's distance runners for the Tar Heels as well as assisting with the men.
"I am thrilled to welcome Ann to Carolina to work directly with our women's distance runners. Throughout a national search, I kept coming back to Ann because she is absolutely the perfect person for this role at the perfect time," said Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Chris Miltenberg. "She is on the cutting edge of training philosophy and, more importantly, has an incredible ability to connect with, inspire and lead student-athletes. I have no doubt Ann is the coach who will help take our women's distance program to the next level as we continue building on the tremendous momentum we've created."
"It is an incredible honor to join the Carolina family and work alongside Coach Miltenberg at a program with such a rich tradition. What excites me most is the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with our student-athletes and help them discover what's possible within themselves," said Dunn. "Championship teams are built on trust, belief, and a commitment to pursuing excellence together. I'm excited to invest in these young women and develop student-athletes who are not only exceptional competitors, but also curious, confident, and courageous women long after their competitive careers are over."
Dunn heads to Chapel Hill after serving as the head cross country/track & field coach at The Covenant School in Charlottesville, Va. She is also the owner of Formula, a running and strength-training fitness studio, as well as Formula Track Club.
While in Virginia, Dunn guided athletes to 18 individual state championship titles, 11 All-America honors as well as coaching Covenant girls cross country to state championship titles in 2022 and 2023 and the boys to a state title in 2024.
Dunn boasts collegiate stops at Oklahoma and Kentucky and spent time at California as an assistant coach for its distance squads.
An All-America distance runner at Wisconsin, Dunn qualified for multiple NCAA Outdoor Championships with the Badgers as well as participating in multiple NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Dunn earned her undergraduate degree from Wisconsin in biology and a Masters in Exercise Physiology from Oklahoma.
