Field Hockey Battles Past Old Dominion, 3-1

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina field hockey wrapped up a successful weekend homestand at Karen Shelton Stadium with a gritty. 3-1 win over Old Dominion on Sunday afternoon.
The No. 1-ranked Tar Heels (12-0, 5-0 ACC) once again relied on their superstar duo of Charly Bruder and Ryleigh Heck to get them to the finish line.
Bruder scored the first and last goals of the game to make it three straight contests with multiple scores for her, the longest such streak of her young career. The sophomore has two or more goals in five contests this season, the only player in the conference to have done so.
With the game tied and the clock winding down, Heck stepped up for her team. After receiving the ball deep along the left side of the end line, she made an impressive solo run and chipped the Monarchs' keeper to give Carolina the lead deep into the fourth quarter.
The Carolina defense stood tall on the day, holding the Monarchs to just four shots and two corners. Goalkeeper Abigail Taylor and her defensive unit have yet to allow more than one goal in a game this year.
Head coach Erin Matson's team will, for the first time this year, have back-to-back weekends at home as the Heels will play host to No. 4 Virginia and No. 9 Boston College next week.
