Men's Soccer Falls At Virginia, Earns Seventh Seed In ACC Tournament

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. – Mouhameth Thiam's late-goal served as the difference maker, as No. 14 Virginia (10-3-3, 5-2-1) defeated No. 10 North Carolina (7-3-5, 2-3-3), 1-0, in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
How It Happened
• Carolina forced early pressure on the host Cavaliers, as David Bercedo forced a shot on goal in the 19th minute.
• Just before the half, defender Riley Thomas' effort in the bottom left corner was saved, as the two programs entered the halftime break deadlocked at zero-all.
• In the 51st, Juan Caffaro forced a shot on goal attempt for the Tar Heels, as the Cavalier goalkeeper made the stop.
• With just over five minutes remaining, Virginia's Mouhameth Thiam struck the back of the net, with assists courtesy of Aidan O'Connor and Axel Ahlander, to give the Cavaliers the 1-0 edge.
