Neglia Earns Championship Spot In Steeplechase
May 28, 2022 | Track & Field
BLOOMINGTON, IND. – Sasha Neglia ran a personal-best 9:59.80 in the women's steeplechase Saturday at Day 4 of the NCAA East Preliminary Round to place ninth in the field and earn a ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She's the seventh Tar Heel to qualify for the event, set for June 8-11 in Eugene, Ore.
Neglia was the only Tar Heel qualifier in the final day of NCAA East Preliminary action at Indiana's Haught Track & Field Complex. With the top three from each of the three heats plus the next three times moving on, she placed fourth in her heat but advanced by virtue of her time.
She joins Jesse Hunt (men's 1,500M), James Joycey (men's hammer), Anna Keefer (long jump), Alex Ostberg (men's 5,000M), Jill Shippee (women's hammer) and Madison Wiltrout (women's javelin) in earning a ticket to Eugene.
In other action on Saturday, Taryn Parks was 16th in the women's 1,500 meters with a personal-best 4:15.73 and Carlee Hansen placed 22nd in 4:25.87.
Anna Keefer, who is headed for Eugene in the long jump, fell just short of also qualifying in the 200 meters, finishing 15th.
