Joycey Punches Ticket To Eugene

BLOOMINGTON, IND. – Senior James Joycey earned a ticket to Eugene, Ore., Wednesday as the North Carolina track and field team kicked off competition at the NCAA East Preliminary Round, hosted by Indiana. Competing at the Hoosiers' Haught Track & Field Complex , Joycey placed third in the men's hammer with a personal-best 227-4 (69.29m) to become the first Carolina competitor to qualify for the NCAA Championships, set for June 8-11 at Oregon's Hayward Field.
Later in the day, Jesse Hunt finished fifth in his 1,500-meters heat to advance to the next round in his event. Isaiah Palmer also advanced in the men's 400 meters. Both will compete on Friday.
