March 27, 2022 | Women's Tennis
TALLAHASSEE, Florida - The top-ranked North Carolina women's tennis team remained unbeaten on the season with a 5-2 victory over No. 59 Florida State on Sunday from the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center.
North Carolina (19-0, 8-0 ACC) has won 42 straight Atlantic Coast Conference regular season matches dating back to April 2018. Meanwhile, Florida State, who upset No. 10 Duke on Friday, forfeited multiple matches on Sunday and was unable to put up much of a fight and dropped to 9-8 overall and 3-6 against the conference.
A forfeit on court three doubles meant the Tar Heels only needed to win one additional match to secure the opening point. Cameron Morra and Alle Sanford's 6-2 win on court two did the trick in helping the visitors take a 1-0 lead.
The Seminoles also forfeited courts five and six singles to hand the Tar Heels a 3-0 edge.
No. 34 Fiona Crawley clinched the win by posting a 6-2, 6-1, victory on court three. Annika Yarlagadda added a win on court four.
Carolina has its hands full this coming week with a pair of in-state ACC road matches. First up is No. 23 Wake Forest on Friday in Winston-Salem at 5 p.m., before a Sunday matinee with No. 2 NC State in Raleigh at 2 p.m.
