Shippee Resets Record, DMR Teams Shine

Tar Heels competed at two separate meets on Friday, running in Winston-Salem, N.C., and throwing in Blacksburg, Va., in the final events before the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Championships.
Virginia Tech Challenge
• Jill Shippee bettered her own school record with a throw of 72-4.50 (22.06) to win the women's weight throw, besting a field of 21 competitors. She first set the record late last month, turning in a throw of 71-4.25 at the Indiana Relays to surpass Laura Gerraughty's record throw of 70-3.75 that had stood since 2005.
Shippee and Troy Yearwood were the only Tar Heels competing at the event. Yearwood was fourth in the men's weight throw with a distance of 61-11 (18.87m)

JDL DMR Invitational
• The Tar Heels sent men's and women's DMR teams to the event.
The UNC women – Carlee Hansen, Alyssa Hernandez, Makayla Paige and Taryn Parks – finished sixth in a time of 11:08.72, the ninth-fastest performance in program history.
The UNC men – Jesse Hunt, Isaiah Palmer, Kyle Reinheimer, and Parker Wolfe – placed fifth with a time of 9:38.83, second in school history.
