Women's Tennis Hosts Tar Heel Invite Friday & Sunday

CHAPEL HILL - The spring semester has not yet begun at the University of North Carolina, however, the women's tennis team is excited to hit the courts this weekend for the Tar Heel Invite on Friday and Sunday from the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Fans are welcome to attend the matches, but are required to wear a mask. Concessions will be available on Sunday. The first 50 people in attendance will receive free popcorn.
Ranked third in the preseason poll released earlier this week, Carolina welcomes No. 22 Tennessee to campus for matches on Friday and Sunday starting each day at 11 a.m.
The Tar Heels lineup is stacked with nationally-ranked singles players and doubles tandems, including the No. 1 team of Fiona Crawley and Elizabeth Scotty, who won the 2021 ITA Fall National Championship back in November.
Carolina has five ranked singles players on its roster - No. 5 Cameron Morra, No. 7 Reilly Tran, No. 13 Carson Tanguilig, No. 19 Fiona Crawley and No. 57 Anika Yarlagadda.
The other doubles teams ranked include No. 6 Morra and Tanguilig, No. 16 Crawley and Tran, No. 34 Alle Sanford and Tran, No. 41 Sanford and Kacie Harvey and No. 48 Crawley and Yarlagadda.
Tennessee boasts three ranked singles players - No. 14 Rebeka Mertena, No. 41 Tenika McGiffin and No. 56 Elza Tomase, and the No. 39 doubles team of McGiffin and Olivia Symons.
The month of January will be busy with five home dual matches on the schedule. The Tar Heels host a double header on Saturday, Jan. 15 with Elon and Appalachian State, another double header on Tuesday, Jan. 18 against Appalachian State and East Carolina, and a marquee match with No. 4 Georgia on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 11 a.m.
