Tar Heels Split Doubleheader at Pittsburgh, Win Third ACC Series
March 30, 2019 | Softball
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Despite dropping the final game, the North Carolina picked up its third ACC series win of the year, topping Pittsburgh, 2-1, in the Steel City on Saturday.
Drawing three walks in the doubleheader, Berlynne Delamora tied Carolina's career walks record with 122. Delamora currently owns the UNC record for hit-by-pitches with 35 to date.
Thanks to home runs from Delamora and Zoë Goodman, the Tar Heels took an early six-run lead by the third inning and held off Pitt for a 6-2 win to clinch the series on Saturday afternoon. However, despite a Campbell Hutcherson gone ball, the Panthers bounced back to take the series finale, 14-5 in five innings. Carolina led through the second inning, 2-1, but a 10-run third frame was too much for the Tar Heels to come back from.
Carolina improves to 19-13 overall, 8-4 in the ACC. Pitt sits to 5-28, 2-10 in conference. UNC wraps up its roadtrip at Longwood, Tuesday at 5 p.m.
