North Carolina Blanks Virginia, 8-0

CHAPEL HILL – Slugging 14 hits on the day, Carolina downed Virginia, 8-0 in five innings for UNC's 20th win of the season. Four Tar Heels had multi-hit games to spark Carolina's offense while solid defense and six Brittany Pickett strikeouts held off the Hoos.
Despite putting two in scoring position to start the series, Virginia was unable to get on the board. The Tar Heels scored two runs both in the second and third innings before securing the victory with four runs in the fifth. UNC improves to 20-13, 9-4 in the ACC while the Hoos fall to 16-19, 5-8 in conference.
Carolina and Virginia wrap up the series with a doubleheader Sunday at noon.
Key Moments
» Virginia drew a leadoff walk then Lacy Smith doubled to left. However, Brittany Pickett worked out of the inning with a trio of strikeouts.
» Berlynne Delamora put down a bunt single to spark the Tar Heels' two-run inning. Shayla Thompson entered and stole second before a Campbell Hutcherson double gave UNC a 1-0 lead. After Destiny DeBerry singled, Leah Murray sent the ball to the left side for an RBI-single and a 2-0 edge.
