Tennis Titans Square Off Saturday In Nashville

The No. 3 North Carolina women's tennis team travels to Nashville, Tenn. on Saturday to take on No. 2 Vanderbilt at 1 p.m ET. Vanderbilt has a record of 2-0, while the Tar Heels are 5-0 on the season.
The Tar Heels last faced Vanderbilt in February 2018 in Chapel Hill, N.C. Carolina came up short, 4-3, in a rare loss at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The Tar Heels started off strong obtaining the doubles point, and led 3-2 in the four-hour slug fest, but could not close out the Commodores. Fernanda Contreras outlasted UNC's Makenna Jones in a tiebreaker on court two to clinch the win.
The Commodores have five ranked singles players, according to the ITA Rankings. No. 6 Contreras, No. 15 Christina Rosca, No. 26 Amanda Meyer, No. 42 Emily Smith, and No. 71 Carolyn Campana.
On the doubles side, No. 25 Contreras and Summer Dvorak, No. 26 Dvorak and Rosca and No. 56 Campana and Smith.
The Tar Heels boast four ranked singles players; No. 2 Jones, No. 4 Sara Daavettila, No. 18 Alexa Graham and No. 21 Cameron Morra. In doubles, Morra and Jones are ranked No. 2.
Both teams were victorious on their home courts last weekend competing in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Vanderbilt topped Memphis and Oklahoma, winning 4-0 and 4-3, respectively. Carolina faced VCU and Princeton where they claimed a 4-0 victory against its opponents.
Both teams will travel to Seattle and figure to be strong favorites at the ITA Indoor National Championship this coming Feb. 8-11, hosted by the University of Washington. UNC is the defending champion and has won three titles since 2013.
