#1 UNC Visits Wake Forest Thursday

Ranked No. 1 in the country for the seventh straight week, the North Carolina women's tennis team heads back out on the road for an ACC match at No. 19 Wake Forest on Thursday in Winston-Salem, N.C., at 5 p.m.
North Carolina (17-2, 6-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) split a pair of home contests last weekend against league foes. The Tar Heels came up short against now No. 3 Georgia Tech, 4-3, on Saturday, snapping an 11-match winning streak against the ACC. On Sunday, UNC rallied nicely with a 7-0 shutout of Virginia Tech.Â
Halfway through the conference slate, Carolina sits in second place behind unbeaten Duke (6-0) and just ahead of the Yellow Jackets, who are 5-1. The Tar Heels and Blue Devils meet on Friday, April 20 in Durham in a match that could ultimately decide the top seed in the ACC Championship. Duke and Georgia Tech will also meet in Atlanta on April 6.Â
Wake Forest (15-5, 4-3) slipped five places in the national rankings after recording a 1-1 record last week agains the ACC. The Demon Deacons lost 5-2 to Florida State, but came back to notch a 6-1 result against Notre Dame.
Wake is led by a pair of ranked singles players - No. 32 Emma Davis and No. 94 Eliza Omirou. Davis leads her team with a 15-4 record in dual matches, including a 14-4 mark at No. 1 singles. Omirou, a rookie from Nicosia, Cyprus, is 12-5 at No. 2 singles and 13-5 overall this spring.Â
Davis and Chandler Carter, who make up the 31st ranked doubles team, own a 12-1 overall dual match record and are 7-1 at No. 1 and 5-0 at No. 2.Â
Carolina is the only team in the country with six ranked singles players: No. 18 Makenna Jones, No. 20 Alle Sanford, No. 27 Sara Daavettila, No. 47 Jessie Aney, No. 70 Alexa Graham and No. 103 Chloe Ouellet-Pizer.Â
Graham and Jones are both a perfect 7-0 against the ACC, while Graham is 18-0 overall this spring in dual matches.
In doubles, Aney and Graham are No. 2 nationally, while Daavettila and Sanford are 13th. Aney and Graham have begun conference play unbeaten in seven matches and are 13-1 in duals this spring.
UNC remains on the road at Notre Dame on April 6 and Louisville on April 8, before returning home to face Virginia on Friday, April 13 at 3 p.m.
