CHAPEL HILL - The North Carolina women's tennis team puts its unbeaten Atlantic Coast Conference record on the line this weekend with a pair of home matches from Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The top ranked Tar Heels face No. 6 Georgia Tech on Saturday at 11 a.m., and Virginia Tech on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Admission is free and fans will have the opportunity to win raffle items that include t-shirts and signed posters, and pizza will be given out after the doubles point is completed.
Coming off two wins on the road last weekend against Miami and Florida State, Carolina stands atop the ACC standing with a 5-0 mark. The Tar Heels are 16-1 overall this spring and have held the No. 1 spot in the national rankings for the last six weeks.
Georgia Tech has spent most of the spring ranked in the top 10, sitting sixth this week after wins last weekend over Cornell and Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas. The Yellow Jackets are 11-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference.Â
Saturday's doubles competition will likely pit the top-2 ranked tandems in the nation. Georgia Tech's Paige Hourigan and Kenya Jones moved up three places to No. 1 this week, while the Tar Heel duo of Jessie Aney and Alexa Graham are ranked second.
Saturday is a rematch of the 2017 ACC Championship final that UNC won, 4-3, last April in Rome, Georgia. However, Georgia Tech did win, 4-3, in Chapel Hill on April 1, 2017, snapping UNC's 50-match home win streak and pinned the Tar Heels with their only league in the last four seasons.
The Hokies bring a 10-4 record into the weekend. They host Pitt on Friday afternoon in Blacksburg, Virginia, before coming to town for Sunday's afternoon affair at 1 p.m.
