CHAPEL HILL --- J.B. Bukauskas continued his stellar junior season with seven shutout innings as No. 8 North Carolina scored a 7-2 series-opening win over Miami Friday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium. Brandon Riley drove in two runs and Ashton McGee had three hits for the Tar Heels, who improved to 17-5 and 5-2 in the ACC.

Carolina clogged the base paths all day, drawing eight walks to go with 10 hits. Eight Tar Heels reached against Jesse Lepore (1-3) in the first, with Tyler Lynn and Riley driving in runs with a groundout and a bases-loaded walk. McGee's RBI single in the second was UNC's lone run-scoring hit of the day.

While the offense was manufacturing runs, Bukauskas was doing his best to prevent them. The Ashburn, Virginia, right-hander was perfect through three innings with five strikeouts and only allowed one baserunner to advance past first all day. Through six starts, Bukauskas is now 4-0 with an 0.90 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 40.0 innings.

Zack Gahagan had two hits and scored twice, including the final UNC run of the game on a Cody Roberts RBI fielder's choice in the sixth.

Miami (10-12, 3-4 ACC) got on the board with a two-run eighth, but Zach Attianese struck out Michael Perez to strand two more and end the Canes' best rally of the day. Austin Bergner worked a scoreless ninth to seal the Tar Heels' third straight Friday win.

The series continues Saturday at 4 p.m. with Gianluca Dalatri set to start for Carolina opposite UM lefty Jeb Bargfeldt.
