CHAPEL HILL --- No. 8 North Carolina clinched its third straight ACC series win with a 6-3 victory over Miami Saturday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium. The Tar Heels were out-hit 10-4 but all four hits went for extra bases, including home runs by Brandon Riley and Cody Roberts. Brett Daniels and Josh Hiatt combined for 4.2 innings of scoreless relief as Carolina won its 10th game in 12.

Riley's second homer of the year - and of the week - was a two-run shot off UM starter Jeb Bargfeldt (1-2) in the second. The Tar Heels (18-5, 6-2 ACC) doubled their lead in the fourth on Brian Miller's two-run triple.

That figured to be enough support for Gianluca Dalatri, but the talented freshman ran into trouble in the fifth. After posting four straight scoreless innings against the Hurricanes (10-13, 3-5 ACC), Dalatri departed in the fifth with the bases loaded and a run in. Miami added two more on a hit batter and an RBI groundout, but Daniels limited the damage to keep UNC up 4-3.

Daniels (2-0) was stellar after that, limiting UM to just one hit over three innings to bridge the gap to Hiatt. The ACC saves leader walked the first man he faced in the ninth but bounced back with a strikeout. Hiatt, who now has nine saves in 11 chances, then got Carl Chester to line into a double play to end it and secure Carolina's first series win over Miami since 2013.

Roberts' first homer of the year gave Carolina a key insurance run in the sixth, and the Tar Heels added a sixth and final run in the inning on Miami's fourth error of the day.

James Davison had three hits to lead the Canes, who have yet to record an extra-base hit through two games this weekend.

Logan Warmoth doubled in the sixth to extend his streak of reaching base to 38 straight games.

Carolina will go for its first sweep of Miami since 2009 when Cole Aker makes his first weekend start Sunday at noon.
