SOUTHBEND, Ind.- Several Tar Heels recorded season-best results, several of which are top-five marks in school history, at the Alex Wilson Invitational Saturday. Seniors LaToya James and Charles Cox claimed wins in their events to lead Carolina on the second day of the Notre Dame last chance meet.
James took the women's 60-meter hurdles in 8.19 and Cox won the men's 400 in 46.36, both of which are best times for the senior Tar Heels this season. Cox's time ties teammate Clayton Parros for the fourth-fastest time in school history.
The women's 4x400 team of James, senior Christine Johnson and juniors Zoey Russell and Elizabeth Mott also improved their relay time, taking fifth at the meet in 3:35.68 with the second fastest time in school history.
Sophomore Clayton Parros also competed in the mens' 400, taking third in 47.18, and junior Tasha Stanley also recorded a season-best time of 2:06.01 in the women's 800 to record the third fastest time in school history.
Carolina also had several athletes compete at the Virgina Tech Qualifier in Blacksburg, Va., this weekend. Freshman Sandi Morris won the women's pole vault with a height of 13-7, and senior Parker Smith finished third in the men's event with a height of 17-3 1/4.
