Tar Heels Wrap Up Competition At Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA - The North Carolina track and field squads wrapped up competition at the prestigious Penn Relays on Saturday as Austin Davis and the women's 4x400-meter relay team shined for Carolina. Davis set a regional mark in the triple jump with a top leap of 52-11 1/2 which was good for fifth place, while the group of LaToya James, Elizabeth Mott, Callie Pottinger and Tasha Stanley ran a 3:38.94 in the 4x400 for seventh place.
Austin Davis shined in the triple jump for the Tar Heels as he cleared 52-11 1/2 for a fifth place finish. The triple jump was a hotly contested event as Davis finished less than a foot behind the eventual winner Tyron Stewart of Texas A&M who cleared 53-9.
The women's 4x400-meter relay squad ran a regional mark time of 3:38.94 to finish seventh place in the event on Saturday. LaToya James got things started for the Tar Heels before Elizabeth Mott and Callie Pottinger ran the middle legs before Tasha Stanley grabbed the baton and ran the final leg.
The men's 4x800-meter relay team of Adam Cunningham, Kyle Milks, Adam Smith and Andrew Rotz clocked a 7:35.71 in the event which was good for ninth place in the college division.
The ACC pole vault scoring duo of Parker Smith and Scott Houston each posted top 10 finishes on Saturday as Smith cleared 17-0 3/4 for fourth place, while Houston cleared 16-0 3/4 for ninth place.
