CHESTNUT, HILL, MASS. - Carolina rebounded after a tough loss Friday night to sweep Boston College 3-0 with set scores 25-21, 25-14 and 25-20. Carolina improves to 15-13 overall and 11-6 in league play, while Boston College falls to 12-16 overall and 2-15 in the ACC. Ingrid Hanson-Tuntland led the way for Carolina uncorking 13 kills and a .393 hitting percentage. Branagan Fuller and Emily McGee added nine kills while Heather Brooks chipped in eight. Carolina posted a .333 hitting percentage for the match paced by Cora Harms 37 assists.
In the opening frame, the Tar Heels started strong opening a 9-5 lead behind a pair of Heather Brooks attacks and a key block. The Eagles stormed back with a 4-0 run to knot the score at nine forcing a Carolina timeout. Trailing 16-15 the Heels uncorked 6-0 run to push in front 21-16 behind a couple Branagan Fuller kills. Carolina went on to win the set 25-21 behind a .311 hitting percentage in the first frame. Three Tar Heels hit at least .500 or above, with Ingrid Hanson-Tuntland and Fuller collaborating for 10 kills and zero attack errors. Carolina limited Boston College to only a .150 clip in set one.
Carolina again got off to a solid start opening a 7-4 lead in the second set, led by three Brooks' kills. Carolina continued to build momentum bursting in front with a 14-6 lead forcing a Eagle timeout. Erica Behm unleashed a slew of effective serves as Carolina held off a late Boston College rally to claim the second frame 25-14. The Tar Heels mashed a .480 hitting percentage in the second set, while holding Boston College to only a .031 clip. Fuller registered another four kills in set two good for a .667 hitting percentage through two sets.
The Tar Heels continued to roll starting the third frame to the tune of an 8-1 advantage. The Eagles answered back to cut the Carolina lead to four at 12-8. Boston College found a little rhythm to slice the Heels' lead to three at 18-15 forcing a Carolina timeout. The Eagles continued to apply pressure, but Carolina proved to be too much winning the third set 25-20 and match 3-0.
Carolina improves to 10-0 all-time against Boston College. The Tar Heels won both matches this season against the Eagles. The Heels will be in action next Friday at Wake Forest and Saturday at rival Duke.
