Tar Heels Ease Past Brown Swimmers

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina's men's and women's swimming and diving teams eased to victories over Brown University Wednesday afternoon at the Maurice J. Koury Natatorium. The Tar Heel improved to 5-1 on the women's side and 3-3 on the men's side with the victories. Carolina's women won by 169-129 while the Tar Heel men won 164-120. The Tar Heel women won 12 of 16 events in easing to the victory while the Carolina men won nine of the 16 events.
Individual winners for the Tar Heel women included sophomore Becky Acker in the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke and 400-yard individual medley, sophomore Lindsay Waddell in the one- and three-meter diving, sophomore Jessi Perruquet in the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle, senior Molly Sullivan in the 1650-yard freestyle, senior Heather Stiles in the 100-yard backstroke, sophomore Molly Freedman in the 200-yard butterfly, junior Christy Watkins in the 100-yard freestyle and freshman Kathleen Quinn in the 200-yard backstroke.
On the men's side, senior Chris Helin, junior Stephen Krebs and junior Sean Quinn both won two individual events as Quinn won the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes and Helin took the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard backstroke. Krebs took both one- and three-meter diving events. Other UNC winners were sophomore Yuri Suguiyama in the 1650-ard freestyle and junior Michael Chenier in the 50-yard freestyle. The Tar Heels also won the 200-yard medley realy with senior Kert Johnson, Quinn, freshman Eddy Matkovich and Chenier composing the relay.
The Tar Heels will next compete against Virginia hosting the Cavaliers Saturday at 1 p.m. at Koury Natatorium.
