General: Three-time letter-winner for the Tar Heels…solid performer for the Tar Heels in the backstroke events...can also swim individual medley events…has compiled a 3.145 cumulative GPA at Carolina.
2000-2001: Swam in the 2001 ACC Championships as an exhibition swimmer...would have placed 28th in the 200 IM, eighth in the 100 back and 15th in the 200 back with her times...Dean’s List selection both semesters...ACC Academic Honor Roll selection.
1999-2000: At the 1999 Nike Cup, she was the runner-up in the 200 back in a 1-2-3 UNC sweep of the event…at the 2000 ACC Championships, she finished fourth in the 200 back (2:00.44), the fifth-fastest time in Tar Heel history...she also placed fourth in the 100 back and ninth in the 200 IM (2:04.60)…2000 ACC Academic Honor Roll selection…achieved a 3.32 GPA for the 2000 spring semester.
1998-99: Won the Jamerson Memorial Award as the squad's most improved swimmer...at the ACC Championships, she finished third in the 200-yard backstroke, fifth in the 100-yard backstroke and eighth in the 200-yard individual medley.
Prep: Graduated in May of 1998 from Durham Academy...swam for Tar Heel assistant coach Randy Erlenbach as a member of the North Carolina Aquatic Club...trained with NCAC for four years...went to senior nationals while swimming for NCAC...swam the 100 and 200 back and 200 IM.
Personal: Given name is Heather Brooke Stiles...was born April 3, 1980...is the daughter of Gary and Jane Stiles...has one sister...biggest sports thrill was winning junior national championship with NCAC girls team...athlete she most admires is Alec Webster...says her interesting facts are that she graduated from high school here, is from Chapel Hill and was coached by Randy Erlenbach even before coming to Carolina...psychology major.
