NORFOLK, Va.-The University of North Carolina field hockey team finished out its regular season Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 neutral site win over No. 11 William & Mary at Old Dominion's Foreman Field. The fourth-ranked Tar Heels are 14-5 overall heading into the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament, which begins Thursday in Chapel Hill.
Sunday's game was scoreless at halftime before the Tar Heels got on the board in the second half with goals from senior Carrie Lingo and junior Meredith Keller. Lingo's goal, on a penalty corner, was assisted by senior Abby Martin. Keller's goal, from the field, was assisted by freshman Kerry Falgowski.
"It wasn't very pretty, but it was a win," UNC coach Karen Shelton said. "We had chances, we just didn't produce much offense. I thought we controlled the game, but that wasn't reflected on the scoreboard."
The game was the sixth shutout of the season for Carolina.
