Katherine (Perry) Hamski, a 2012 All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection and seven-year veteran of the LPGA Tour, is in her third season as assistant coach at her alma mater.
Hamski played in 41 tournaments as a Tar Heel from 2010-14 and was a member of Carolina’s 2011 team that won the ACC Championship her freshman season. She is the most recent Tar Heel to finish in the top 10 in an NCAA Championship, tying for eighth in 2012 at the Legends Course in Nashville.
In 2024-25, the Tar Heels won the Cavalier Regional Preview and the Yale Invitational West, both with school-record scoring. Inez Ng won at Virginia, setting the UNC recird with a 12-under-par 201.
Carolina was ranked 13th in the nation in the final poll and played in an NCAA regional for a fourth-straight season. The Tar Heels had seven top-five finishes in 10 events and carded four of the 10-best rounds and three of the lowest four 54-hole totals in Carolina history.
Megan Streicher earned All-ACC honors for the second year in a row, Ng shot a UNC-record 12 under par in winning in Charlottesville. Streicher, Ing Iadpluem and Helen Yeung finished the season with the second-, fourth- and eighth-lowest stroke averages in UNC history. Yeung set the freshman scoring record, breaking the standard Streicher set in Hamski’s first season on staff.
In 2023-24, Carolina won three tournaments, advanced to match play in the ACC Championship and qualified for the NCAA Championship. The Tar Heels won the St Andrews Links Collegiate at the Jubilee and The Old Course, the UCF Challenge and NC State Match Play Invitational. It was the first time Carolina won three tournaments in a season since 2012-13.
“Katherine has a wealth of golf knowledge and an unwavering passion for our institution,” says head coach Aimee Neff. “Her deep-seated love for UNC and dedicated focus on nurturing our student-athletes’ personal and athletic development significantly enrich our program. She has experience in professional golf, both as a recent player and securing an LPGA Teaching Certification, which coupled with her exceptional ability to forge meaningful connections, elevates the experience for all our current and prospective players.”
The Cary, N.C., native tied for fifth in the 2014 ACC Championship, placed sixth in 2011 and played in two NCAA Championships, where she tied for 24th as a freshman and eighth as a sophomore.
She earned seven top 10s, including third-place efforts at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate as a sophomore and the UCF Challenge as a junior.
A two-time captain of the Tar Heels, she earned honorable mention All-America honors in 2012, made the ACC Honor Roll four times and was a three-time member of the Academic All-ACC team.
A 2014 UNC graduate (exercise and sports science and psychology), Hamski played two seasons on the Symetra Tour and joined the LPGA Tour in 2017. She also is a member of the Board of Directors at Girls Golf of America and is a tournament assistant with the Peggy Kirk Bell Golf Tour.
She has two career top-10 finishes on the LPGA Tour, including a tie for sixth in the 2019 Volunteers for America Classic, when she shot 66 in the third round.
Hamski attended Athens Drive High School in Cary where she won the 2009 North Carolina 4-A state championship. She and her husband, Kevin, have a five-year-old son, John.
